Who's Your True Blue Booby, Vidli.com?

Tonight after some holiday shopping to pick up materials for making some AWESOME gifts for Mom, Sister, and Niece (pics to post before too long. And don’t worry, my family doesn’t read my blogs 🙁 ), I decided to whip up a Twitter Archive.
I’d been following @Andrea_r‘s conversation about the Twitter Digest plugin and got interested in the concept of archiving my tweets so I could access them past the 7 days or so that Twitter allows you access.
A couple of days ago, Ron (@WPMUguru) posted up a fix to the Twitter Digest plugin allowing it to operate correctly on WPMU:

Andrea was looking for a Twitter digest plugin so that she could start making a permanent backup of her tweets because the twitter API only provides access to the last 3200 tweets. The plugin she asked me to look at was Twitter Digest by Tim Beck. The reason she asked me to look at it was that it the option page did not save the settings in WordPress MU.

Rock and roll! So, I decided to add a new subdmain to the BoldlyGoing.com WPMU install and hook things up. Now you if you hit MyTweets.BoldlyGoing.com you can marvel 😉 at the wonder.
Basically, there’s the WPMU subdomain with the P2 Theme running the look and feel. I’ve got Twitter Digest (v. 1.8.3b the MU enhanced version) grabbing the tweets every morning early and posting to the site.
Finally I also installed Photo Dropper so I can go back to the site every few days and add some nice visual stuff.
And that’s what drove this post, especially its title. As I continue to earn your trust and eventually your support in my pursuit of the Social Media Gig with Vidli.com I was messing over at my twitter repository site and decided to post up a test from the front page (as per P2 theme). I did a search on Flickr for blue footed boobies and found that lovely little rascal you see above.
Have to say, they are really strange, yes? But adorable nonetheless!
Hey, thanks for taking the time to check out this post. And if you are feeling rather altruistic today, why not take about 37 seconds or so and sign up for the FREE beta invite for the new video monetization service that Vidli.com will be launching early next year. I’m buying drinks for everyone that’s helped me get the gig (if, of course I get the gig!)
Seriously though, thank you for your time. You have my sincere gratitude! Have a wonderful weekend.

What is Happening in Video Monetization News Today?

As I learn more about the detailed processes of video monetization, I am coming across a ton of interesting stories. I’ll start collecting them and making posts here. If the concept goes well, perhaps I’ll start up a new site to focus on monetizing video, licensing fees and other issues and perhaps DRM topics as well.

You probably know that I’m attempting to get hired by Vidli.com and as such really need to increase my knowledge about online video and how it works from a business model perspective.
The work I did with TheFightChannel.com as we tried to launch that business really got me hip deep into online video. From content delivery networks to transcoding, I learned a lot. In fact, as part of that experience I actually filed two patent pending processes for delivering online video and audio in some interesting and unique ways.
Below are recent stories that seem worthy of in depth study. Thanks!

Monster Energy, the leading provider of energy drinks in the United States, is the first brand to benefit from the partnership – having recently unveiled its new Web site designed by LEVEL Studios and incorporating Kyte’s online video platform to engage audiences and build brand awareness across the social Web.

What Does Holding a Camera Still for 2:48 Gets You?

How about 5,669,208 views (as of this post date)?
Uhm, that’s a lot of people viewing a really funny and entertaining video of a kid bopping around to the sights and sounds of a Beyonce video.
What might have happened if Cory’s dad had helped me out by signing up for a free beta invite from Vidli.com and taken advantage of the Official Video Licensor’s ability to help you monetize your online videos?
Over 5 1/2 MILLION views? Thinking there’s some change to be made there!

Seth Helps Me Describe Vidli.com's Video Licensing

Chili
Creative Commons License photo credit: geoftheref

Just read Seth Godin’s post trying to tell someone what something is like. He uses the analogy of trying to describe a spicy pepper to someone that had never experienced the joy (and sometimes pain!) of eating yummy “hot” peppers.
Ultimately, he’s comparing the trust you have to build with those that you are trying to get to experience something new (and hopefully different, interesting, worthwhile, etc.)
Hopefully you know that I’ve been working at developing enough online contacts and social media presence to get folks to “trust me” when I ask that you “just try it” as it comes to Vidli.com’s services. Actually, all you can do right now is to sign up for a beta account when they are ready to start opening up the doors to their business.
As a part of their business expansion, they want to hire someone that has proven experience in the world of Social Media Marketing. I’m hoping you’ll help me to be that person. It’s really easy on your part, in fact. All you have to do to help Hire James D Kirk at Vidli.com is click through and sign up.
It should only take you about 37 seconds, and it could mean the difference of me getting an interview with the amazing folks at Vidli who help people buy, sell and rent videos online.

How Could Comcast, NBCU, HULU and Vidli Play Together?

Just finished the well thought out and written article by Jim O’Neill of Fierce Online Video entitled, In Comcast’s NBCU lineup, is there room for Hulu?. Mr. O’Neill lays out what is likely to be how Comcast Cable, the controlling interest in NBCU after agreeing to a joint venture with General Electric will likely operate.
Disney_logo All’s well and good. I suppose. Granted I’ve not done any serious research and obviously don’t know the players, but I have my reservations. When the announcements were starting, my friend @NyahWilliams asked me what I thought. I told her that I’ve no real experience with Comcast as a company, but I do read.
That’s the great thing about the Net. All these blogs, Twitter, various other social interactions. Just paying attention allowed me to have a relatively informed opinion to share with her. I’ve read very little positive about Comcast’s products and customer service.
fox_logoNow they have all the great stuff the Jim outlines in his article, and it causes me to worry about that control; that power they might wield over stuff I like to watch (Chuck, I’m looking at you 😉 )
Anyway, now that I’m striving to get a gig with the Vidli, The Official Video Licensor, it occurred to me that Vidli’s services of offering per video licensing fees might be the perfect solution to help ensure that Hulu stays in operation.
nbcu-logoDon’t get me wrong. I don’t want to pay for content any more than you do; neither do I want to watch 8 to 10 commercial units per break. (WTF are the networks thinking anyway?) I watch the 15 to 30 second break on Hulu shows. Because they force me to. But that’s fine. When it gets upwards to 4 or 5 units? Maybe not.
So, I’m just pondering that if a service like Vidli could land accounts with the copyright holders that provide Hulu with content (talking of course about NBCU, Disney, Fox) then perhaps there could be alternative online video monetization that would give us, the consumers, affordable access to shows with reduced advertising or none whatsoever.
new_vidliJust saying, there are some alternatives for the big players to consider that doesn’t force online video, IPTV, etc to become synonymous with the 60 year old boob tube operations.

How Can You Help Get Someone Hired?

Help Get James D Kirk Hired at Vidli.comWell, the answer to that question, in my case, is actually very easy! If you are into online video in any sense, then eventually you are going to hear about Vidli.com and their rather unique approach to making money with online video. They’ve created an interesting approach to monetizing video you own the copyright to. I’ve become enamored with what they’re doing, and am hoping to land a permanent gig with all the groovy folks working and developing there.
So, how can you help? Simple. Sean Murphy, co-founder of Vidli has created an competition that will land the top five referrers an opportunity to interview for the Social Media position they are hoping to fill soon. All you have to do is click to Hire James D Kirk.
Help Hire James D KirkYou will be redirected to the Vidli sign up page where, if you do sign up for a FREE beta invite, they will credit me with a point for the sign up. Top 5 referrers by Dec. 21 will be invited to interview for the full time gig.
If you know me at all, then you’re aware I spend a lot of time online and share a decent amount of attention in the social media world. Having the chance to jump into a full time position in social media marketing would be a logical step in my career.
Your help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks in advance for sharing this with others that might help a fellow out.

Amazon Affiliate Linker Plugin Test

Just testing to see if the Amazon Affiliate Linker WordPress Plugin will work on WPMU install.
Here, I’m just using the plugin to create (hopefully!) a link to the same Pro Blogger book that is used in the Club WordPress post about this plugin. [asin=0470246677]Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income[/asin].
That title “should” hopefully be an Amazon Affiliate link. We shall see!

Dual Tuner DVRs Simply Cannot be Lived Without!

the PowerCD's current home
Creative Commons License photo credit: blakespot

Do you watch much television? Are you a bit on the technical side of the equation when it comes to the hardware associated with your home entertainment experience? Having recently come to the end of a contract with 1 of the 2 satellite television providers, I decided it was time to look into current home entertainment offerings in the marketplace.
Let me preface all by simply saying the research revealed very little in the ways of apparent differences offered by these companies. Why is that? Most likely it’s due to the fact that you don’t get to experience the entertainment until you have bought into their system. You don’t get to scroll through the menus or guides, experience the lag when changing channels, get amazed at how fast the DVR will fast forward or rewind until agreements have been made and installations completed.
By then, it may be too late. I felt there was no appreciable difference between what I had and the local cable offering. So, I investigated the other satellite company and their current deals.
In the end, they were offering the same sort of programming (sure they had a channel or 2 not available on other systems; and likely didn’t have others.) The key was the hardware: DVRs and high definition. What I took for granted was that anyone in their right state of mind would consider any option that did not include a minimum of 2 television tuners in their receiver box.
In our 4 television house, only one of the receivers ended up being a dual tuner DVR. My personal room had only a single tuner. Imagine my dismay when trying to watch a program on one channel and record on another.
NO, NO, NO!
It took several phone calls back to the company and some price wrangling, however in the end, I was provided great service and ultimately the dual tuner, HD DVR that would do at least what I had come to expect when it comes to enjoying television entertainment.

So am able to get this blog to connect with my Storm. And am writing in landscape mode so that is cool.
Going for the photo insert just to be greedy!
Weird that there is no visual clue as to where the inserted photo is at in the body of the post.
Okay going for the submit, now!
