The number of expats — that is, people who live outside of their native country — has grown by 5.8 percent each year since 2013. But which of the world’s cities are the best for expats? Preply ranked 60 of the most popular cities worldwide — based on metrics such as average monthly rent and safety — to determine the top destinations for relocating to work and live in.





Preply has created the global expat index ranking 60 of the most popular destinations on 11 relevant relocation metrics. These include the average monthly salary, how safe the area is, the average length of time to learn the language fluently, and more.

As travel returns full-scale, Asian destinations in particular are keen to boost their tourism economies after the pandemic. Hong Kong has already announced plans to give away half a million airline tickets:

Taiwan, which is planning to offer tourists $165 each to vacation there. Cash rewards will also be offered to tour groups to encourage them to visit the island.

Most countries in the region have done away with Covid-19 entry restrictions or are in the process of fully reopening to foreigners. International flights are regaining frequency. And an array of stunning new hotels are opening left and right.
